The Bachelor of Arts offers unparalleled flexibility in higher education. Featuring more than twenty specialized majors, this program allows you to tailor your studies by combining core subjects with elective courses. Our students possess an insatiable curiosity about life's fundamental questions, revel in intellectual exploration, and pursue wisdom and inspiration throughout their lives. As part of the University of Tasmania community, you'll join scholars deeply passionate about their teaching and research fields. Have you ever wondered about the moral failings of Roman rulers or the wrathful tendencies of mythological deities? Or why Rome's collapse still serves as a crucial reference point in contemporary geopolitics? The Ancient Civilisations program reveals both the fluidity of human societies and the enduring connections that unite humanity across time. This program covers diverse subjects including mythologies, religious practices, theatrical traditions, historical narratives, and classical literature. Ancient Civilisations represents a vibrant, interdisciplinary field where you'll develop expertise in historical analysis, literary interpretation, archaeological evidence, and philosophical investigation.

The curriculum starts with comprehensive overviews of Greek and Roman societies, teaching foundational techniques for analyzing ancient texts. Intermediate courses expose students to academic scholarship while refining critical evaluation of primary materials. Advanced studies challenge learners to assess modern interpretations and cultivate independent research capabilities. Combined with Ancient Languages, these majors form our Classics program, taught by distinguished faculty members. This major cultivates analytical reasoning, investigative techniques, and cross-cultural understanding - valuable assets for careers requiring ethical assessment, long-term strategic thinking, or policy analysis. Graduates find opportunities in diverse sectors including: Government and Public Policy, Teaching, Personnel Management, and International Aid Organizations.
