The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to analyze human culture and behavior through diverse viewpoints and historical contexts. This program encourages exploration of contemporary societal challenges while fostering skills to contribute to human development, creativity, and innovation. The flexible structure allows students to either begin their Bachelor of Arts journey, focus on two BA majors, or sample courses across multiple disciplines. With access to more than twenty majors and minors from the Bachelor of Arts program, plus numerous electives, students can tailor their studies to broaden their expertise and develop versatile skills.
Philosophy challenges students to grapple with life's most profound inquiries. What constitutes a fulfilling existence? How do we acquire knowledge? What defines our reality and our place within it? How can we create just societies? This discipline examines timeless human questions while addressing context-specific issues relevant to Tasmania and beyond. Philosophy engages with themes emerging from various fields including arts, sciences, law, and religion, while emphasizing ethical worldviews. Students develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and effective communication skills - competencies highly prized across academic disciplines and modern careers.
Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
Most of our undergraduate programs have the following English language requirements.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42
UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%)
Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
