The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to examine human culture and behavior through diverse lenses, tackle contemporary societal challenges, and engage with creative expression and innovation. This qualification offers flexibility - it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow students to specialize in two BA majors, or provide broad exposure to multiple disciplines. Students can customize their learning journey by selecting from more than twenty potential majors and minors within the Bachelor of Arts, along with numerous elective options.
Criminal activity presents ongoing challenges for societies worldwide. Criminology investigates the nature of crime, its causes, and justice systems, analyzing criminal behavior, prevention strategies, social controls, and rehabilitation approaches. This major examines concepts of justice, media influences, legislative impacts, and real-world criminal proceedings. The curriculum covers diverse offenses ranging from digital crimes to environmental violations, using both global and local case studies. Students will master criminological theories and methodologies, learning to assess criminal causes and societal responses across different scales. The program prepares graduates for careers in law enforcement, crime prevention, corrections, and policy development, with flexible study options including on-campus and online delivery.
Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
Most of our undergraduate programs have the following English language requirements.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42
UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%)
Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
