The Peace and Conflict Studies specialization equips students with knowledge of conflict patterns and opportunities for establishing, maintaining, and strengthening peace across diverse political, social, economic, and environmental settings. This program helps students cultivate essential abilities in conflict assessment and peacebuilding strategies, preparing them to implement practical approaches to real-world problems.
This concentration examines conflicts at local, national, regional, and international scales, integrating social, scientific, and legal methodologies to offer a comprehensive view of peace and societal transformation.
Explore and tackle critical global issues such as warfare and peacebuilding, socioeconomic equity, poverty alleviation, development initiatives, and environmental conservation. Examine interactions between governmental and non-governmental entities, including the development of global governance systems. Enhance your analytical capabilities through this demanding, research-focused curriculum. The Master of International Relations offers concentrations in Economics, Political Economy, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Social Policy and Development, or International Law. You'll acquire advanced expertise in addressing complex global challenges. Our Department of Government and International Relations ranks among Australia's largest in its field, maintaining connections with prominent policy research organizations like the Australian Institute of International Affairs and the Lowy Institute. The department also hosts the Centre for International Security Studies and the Electoral Integrity project. Qualification Requirements

Admission to candidature for the Master of International Relations (2 year full time) requires: A bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65 percent) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification
Candidates may apply for a Reduced Volume of Learning (RVL) if they have completed the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in International Relations or if they have an Honours degree in a relevant discipline.
Candidates may also apply for a Reduced Volume of Learning (RVL) if they have a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit average including a major in humanities, social sciences or law. Candidates with relevant work experience may also apply for RVL . The duration and relevance of the work experience will be assessed by the department before RVL is granted.
IELTS- A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL IBT- A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
