This dynamic discipline goes far beyond merely maintaining old structures. Students with backgrounds in architecture, urban design, archaeology, history, engineering, or similar fields - including graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments program - can enhance their expertise in conservation and adaptive reuse through this curriculum. We encourage applications from diverse academic backgrounds.
The course focuses on building essential skills in these key areas:
Recording and evaluating culturally important locations, encompassing structures, sites, and heritage landscapes,
Developing strategic plans for managing significant cultural sites,
Mastering the legal systems, policy approaches, and professional standards that shape heritage conservation work.
Admission to the Master of Heritage Conservation requires:
a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification with a credit average mark across all units; or
completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma; or
completion of the requirements of the graduate certificate with a weighted average mark of at least 70 across all units attempted for the award.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
