Nutrition Science is an interdisciplinary field examining food's role in health and disease throughout human development. The program begins with fundamental biology and biochemistry before specializing in human nutrition. Students examine nutrient impacts on health at both molecular and systemic levels, learning about nutrient sensing, digestion, metabolism, and storage. The curriculum develops essential laboratory and research competencies, including big data analysis, preparing graduates for careers as nutrition scientists, researchers, or for advanced study in dietetics (with additional requirements).

Specializing in nutrition and metabolism creates pathways for postgraduate study. Options include an honors year or the DAA-accredited Master of Nutrition and Dietetics. Graduates can pursue roles in: healthcare facilities; community health organizations; private clinics; sports nutrition; food manufacturing; marketing; consulting; NGOs; government health services; or academic research and teaching positions.

A Bachelor of Science unlocks diverse career possibilities. If you aspire to be at the cutting edge of scientific discovery, develop analytical and critical thinking abilities, or contribute to environmental solutions, this degree equips you with valuable skills for numerous professions. At Sydney, you'll learn from passionate science educators, including Australian Academy of Science members, Australian Research Council Fellows, and distinguished award recipients. Your studies will take place in state-of-the-art facilities like the advanced Sydney Nanoscience Hub and the Charles Perkins Centre, specializing in diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular research.
