Microbiology reveals the invisible world of microscopic organisms. These tiny life forms are essential to Earth's ecosystems yet can pose significant challenges as disease-causing agents, crop destroyers, and contaminants in food and water supplies. The Microbiology major exposes you to the remarkable variety and functions of microorganisms. You'll examine their influence on other organisms, study their roles in health and disease across individuals, populations, and ecosystems, and investigate their position within the interconnected web of human, animal, and environmental relationships. The program covers microbial applications in manufacturing and environmental cleanup, along with genetic and molecular studies, particularly focusing on current research in advanced coursework. As students advance through the major, they'll master sophisticated concepts and techniques including molecular microbiology, systems biology, genomic and protein analysis, advanced imaging, genetic engineering, microbial evolution, and the study of antimicrobial substances and resistance mechanisms.

A Bachelor of Science unlocks countless possibilities. If you aspire to be at the cutting edge of discovery, develop analytical and critical thinking abilities, or contribute to improving our world, this degree equips you with valuable skills for diverse career paths.
