The Medicinal Chemistry program equips students with essential expertise for careers in pharmaceutical research and drug innovation. Developing new medications represents one of science's most dynamic and fast-evolving areas, with increasing demand for better treatments targeting both longstanding illnesses (including cancer), emerging conditions (like HIV/AIDS), and expanding global health threats (such as malaria and TB). Modern challenges span antibiotic-resistant infections to neurological disorders, all requiring novel therapeutic solutions. This field focuses on discovering and optimizing pharmaceutical compounds to address these pressing medical needs.
The Bachelor of Science (Advanced) is an undergraduate program designed to cultivate analytical and problem-solving abilities, preparing graduates to contribute to scientific advancements. The curriculum begins with core foundational science units, followed by specialization through a chosen major or stream from the Science disciplines. Students complement their studies with a secondary focus area from either science or interdisciplinary options, along with Open Learning modules and electives to fulfill degree requirements.
