The Bachelor of International and Global Studies (Honours) is a rigorous one-year program focused on advanced research. Participants attend specialized seminars and develop an extensive thesis on a chosen topic under the guidance of an expert supervisor. While standard degrees offer broad exploration across disciplines, the honours year allows students to deeply engage with their major subject, mastering its methodologies through independent research. This program serves as both a foundation for graduate studies and a crowning achievement of undergraduate education. For many, honours represents the pinnacle of their academic journey, expanding intellectual horizons while refining research, analytical, and communication skills essential for completing significant projects. For others, it marks the beginning of a career in academic research.
The Political Economy Honours degree stands as the Department's flagship undergraduate offering. Designed for outstanding students majoring in Political Economy, it cultivates exceptional research, writing, and communication abilities. This intensive year combines two advanced seminar courses with the development of a 20,000-word thesis on a student-selected topic, conducted under departmental supervision. Thesis topics may explore economic theory, policy, or methodology. The program provides direct access to postgraduate opportunities, with graduates being highly valued by employers for their advanced research and writing capabilities. Admission requires an undergraduate WAM of 70 or higher.
