The Education Studies Major is pursued by all undergraduates in education programs at the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, while also being open to non-teaching students interested in educational topics. This foundational program covers essential education concepts through specialized courses exploring sociological and psychological viewpoints, Aboriginal Education, and Special and Inclusive Education.
During their third year, students can select specialized courses from diverse fields like educational psychology, creative learning approaches, global education systems, or Indigenous Australian education contexts. Rotating elective options may include: child development and neuroscience in education; Mentoring in Educational Settings; Innovative Learning Environments; Indigenous Community-led Learning; and Gender and Sexuality in Education.
In their final year, students undertake the FASS Interdisciplinary Impact course and the culminating Education Capstone project.
Starting from first semester, students gain practical experience through school placements, progressing from small-group interactions to fourth-year teaching practicums where they demonstrate independent teaching capabilities.
Join an energetic learning community that nurtures aspiring educators, developing their skills and leadership potential through reflective practice to address global educational challenges.
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is an undergraduate teaching qualification preparing graduates to educate children aged five to twelve in primary schools.
Students complete core education courses, the Education Studies major, and may choose a primary teaching specialization in their final year. Professional teaching placements complement academic coursework throughout the program.
