The History program prepares you to analyze transformations, consider multiple viewpoints, and evaluate various forms of evidence.

Your first year centers on The History Workshop, where you'll participate in an intimate seminar focusing on a specific historical period and location as a lens for studying societal, cultural, political, or economic shifts. This course immerses you in historical methodology while developing essential skills through an engaging, collaborative setting. The Workshop is enhanced by comprehensive surveys of global history spanning the last millennium, offering foundational knowledge for contextualizing change and drawing parallels.

During your second and third years, you'll investigate diverse themes - ranging from gender studies and conflict to governance and artistic movements, from intellectual traditions to culinary evolution - across various eras and regions - extending from medieval times to contemporary society, covering locations from Australia and China to America and Europe. You'll enjoy flexibility in selecting your areas of concentration. As Australia's most extensive history program, the University of Sydney provides exceptional breadth of choice.

The program concludes with a culminating experience that may, based on your preferences, examine historical theory, allow for in-depth independent research, or facilitate practical applications of historical skills through community partnerships.
