The Bachelor of Arts honours year serves as both a foundation for postgraduate studies and a culminating experience for an undergraduate degree. It can represent the peak of your formal education, broadening your intellectual horizons while refining your research capabilities, analytical thinking, and communication skills. This program also fosters the personal and professional competencies required to successfully complete a research project. It is particularly suitable for undergraduate students who have completed one major. Additionally, honours can serve as the initial step toward a career in academia or professional research. The honours year includes seminar courses and the development of a short thesis based on an independent research project, guided by an academic supervisor specializing in your research area. The fourth-year honours program in Asian Studies involves two seminars and an 18,000-20,000 word thesis on a topic of personal interest. Similar to the undergraduate Asian Studies major, all coursework and the thesis are conducted in English. However, students with proficiency in an Asian language are encouraged to incorporate sources in that language for their thesis research. Before starting honours, you must complete all other requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or another bachelor's degree, including Open Learning Environment (OLE) units and, for those pursuing the Bachelor of Advanced Studies, a second major.
