The nature of work is evolving, broadening the scope of what it means to practice law. Our esteemed combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws program encourages innovative thinking. Graduating with dual degrees unlocks diverse career paths in law or other fields that value legal expertise. Modern law graduates must cultivate an adaptable mindset and the capacity to integrate legal and interdisciplinary knowledge to address complex challenges in an era of rapid change, evolving client demands, and technological progress. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is a prestigious Australian program, recognized internationally and serving as the initial requirement for legal practice admission in NSW. Emphasizing today's legal landscape, it hones advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities essential for navigating a dynamic global environment. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) provides extensive options across over 45 disciplines, enabling you to establish a strong foundation in another field and acquire distinctive viewpoints. You pursue the BA over three years while concurrently completing the LLB's first-year equivalent. In the fourth and fifth years, you undertake the remaining mandatory and elective LLB courses respectively. Honors completion is available in the fourth year, postponing the final law units to the fifth year. The European Studies major explores European societies, politics, and cultures. Our courses examine contemporary Europe, its challenges and achievements, its diversity, conflicts, global relations, and historical contexts. We analyze both the European Union—the world's most advanced supranational federation and progressive superpower—and the broader European continent. The major incorporates expertise from specialists in French, German, Italian, Modern Greek, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies, and Political Economy. European Studies can be pursued as a major, minor, or through individual elective or Open Learning Environment units. No European language proficiency is required, as all instruction is in English using English materials. However, we recommend enhancing your European Studies by developing proficiency in a European language through a complementary major or minor. Exchange opportunities are available at numerous University of Sydney partner institutions across Europe. Furthermore, through project-based senior units, including our Internships for Credit program, you will build professional and problem-solving skills relevant to current European issues.
