Our Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science program is a specialized veterinary residency that equips licensed veterinarians with the qualifications needed for specialist certification.
This program paves the way for careers in veterinary specialization, assuming all additional criteria are satisfied.
Completed over 3.5 years of full-time study, the doctorate integrates rigorous coursework with hands-on clinical experience and a 50,000-word research thesis, offering comprehensive exposure to specialized veterinary practice.
Students will gain clinical experience through rotations in diagnostic laboratories or veterinary teaching hospitals, honing their skills to specialist standards while fulfilling coursework requirements.
The research thesis component opens doors to evidence-based careers in clinical practice or research, with potential opportunities in public health organizations, academic institutions, or scientific research facilities.

Qualification Requirements
BVSc(Hons) with honours class IIB or higher; OR
Postgraduate degree in Veterinary Science of at least one year full-time equivalent including relevant experience and an overall GPA of 5; OR
BVSc or equivalent plus two years relevant experience, or one year internship under the supervision of a registered veterinary specialist.
Applicants must satisfy the Head of School and Dean of the Graduate School that they are qualified for admission, and may be required to attend an interview. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland.
