This combined program equips you with advanced mathematical skills applicable to engineering disciplines, while also laying the foundation for pursuing an honors degree in mathematics. During this five-year curriculum, you'll earn a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) while enhancing your education with supplementary mathematics courses. Upon graduation, you'll possess outstanding capabilities, fully prepared for a dynamic engineering career. Your selected major could lead to opportunities across diverse sectors, including infrastructure development, healthcare facilities, energy systems, or software industries. Concurrent mathematics studies will not only strengthen your engineering expertise but also create avenues for advanced academic pursuits, including mathematics honors programs. The University of Queensland offers Queensland's most extensive range of engineering disciplines. Options include chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, mechatronic, or software engineering, with opportunities to combine your specialization with cutting-edge engineering fields. You'll earn two prestigious degrees, gaining sophisticated knowledge and abilities that will distinguish you in today's competitive employment landscape.

The program commences with foundational studies in design concepts, mechatronic systems, theoretical principles, communication techniques, and professional ethics. Your coursework will blend mechanical engineering dynamics and materials science with electrical engineering components like circuit architecture. You'll investigate theoretical frameworks and real-world implementations in domains such as artificial intelligence, signal processing, systems analysis, and control mechanisms. These concepts will be synthesized with computer science as you examine the integration of mechanical and electrical systems. Annually, you'll participate in team-based, practical projects requiring the design and construction of solutions for mechatronic challenges. Past endeavors have included miniature rescue vehicles, self-navigating drones, automated automobiles and sailboats, and underwater recovery systems. Your third year features a dedicated robotics project. Career prospects vary by specialization but may include product design and production, resource extraction, aerospace and defense sectors, transportation systems, or research positions in government and industrial laboratories.
