This year-long program requires students to complete and present a supervised research initiative. Participants can choose from diverse project options, provided the work connects to medical science and follows proper scientific methods. The Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) Program Convenor and School of Medicine and Public Health Head will assess project viability during the application process. A key requirement is securing commitment from an experienced researcher willing to supervise throughout the study duration. Research may occur in University labs (using animal or human samples), clinical environments, existing databases, or - for sociological/behavioral/public health studies - alternative settings. While projects don't need University of Newcastle premises or primary supervision by its faculty, external research requires a University academic as co-supervisor. Qualified conjoint appointees may serve as primary supervisors if they possess sufficient research credentials.
