The Social Work Professional Doctorate (PrDoc) is an advanced research program designed for practicing social workers. This unique qualification blends graduate-level coursework focused on specialized social work practice with doctoral-level research aimed at expanding professional knowledge, culminating in a doctoral dissertation. The program structure comprises one year of full-time coursework (Year 1) followed by two years of dedicated research (Years 2-3). Students produce a substantial thesis typically ranging between 50,000 to 60,000 words. Candidates can select specialized coursework from three School of Social Sciences programs: the Master of Counselling Social Work (8930), Master of Development Studies (8942), or Master of Public Policy and Governance (8259). Excellence in social work practice demands ongoing knowledge advancement, while leadership roles require extensive experience, advanced practice expertise, and refined research capabilities.
