Anatomy explores the framework and composition of the human body. Originating from Greek, the term 'anatomy' translates to 'cutting apart' or 'dissecting'. Modern anatomy extends beyond merely examining dissected bodies, though dissection remains crucial for research and education alongside advanced tools like virtual reality. This field now encompasses several interconnected specialties: gross anatomy focuses on the form, arrangement, and function of bones, joints, muscles, and organs, including their vascular and nervous systems; histology examines tissue and cellular structures at microscopic levels; embryology investigates fetal development from conception to birth, including growth processes and abnormalities; neuroanatomy analyzes the brain and spinal cord's organization and operations; biological anthropology applies biological theories to understand humans and primates.
