The Renewable Energy Engineering specialization covers various renewable energy technologies and their applications. This includes solar thermal systems, photovoltaics, wind turbines, biomass, as well as key aspects of solar architecture and designing energy-efficient buildings and appliances.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of renewable energy projects, RE engineers often need comprehensive engineering knowledge or must collaborate with specialists from other fields. Consequently, RE engineers benefit from understanding multiple engineering disciplines. A distinctive aspect of this program is that starting in Year 2, students can choose specialized 'Strand elective' courses in one of three focus areas: Humanitarian Engineering, Low Energy Systems, or Renewable Energy Systems. This approach provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles while allowing for focused secondary specialization.
