The Energy and Renewable Energy Systems Major integrates multiple engineering fields to pursue a shared objective: providing society with cost-effective, eco-friendly, low-carbon energy solutions.
This program establishes its groundwork in core mechanical and electrical engineering principles. It acknowledges that solar PV and wind power currently account for most new global power generation installations (nearly all in Australia) due to their affordability and declining costs. The shift toward electric vehicles, heating systems, and industrial processes is projected to at least double electricity needs.
Participants develop expertise in solar/wind technologies, power grid infrastructure, energy storage solutions, and hydrogen production/application. The curriculum examines ecological, societal, resource, material, and economic factors.
