The Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) is a 48-unit advanced undergraduate program designed for high-achieving students, equivalent to one year of full-time study. This degree builds upon an undergraduate pass degree in Arts, International Studies, or Social Research and Policy. Students typically pursue honours within their major field from their previous degree. The program emphasizes enhancing analytical and research capabilities, expanding subject knowledge, and applying discipline-specific methodologies. For Asian Studies, the honours requirement is 48 units, achievable through one year of full-time or two years of part-time study.
The honours curriculum combines seminar participation with a substantial research component. Students undertake 18 units of coursework alongside a 30-unit thesis or research project. This culminating research work should span 15,000 to 20,000 words in English.
Coursework options for the 18-unit requirement may be selected from either the School of Humanities and Languages or the School of Social Sciences, depending on the thesis focus, prior coursework, and enrollment availability in specific courses.
