This pioneering program represents Australia and Asia's first accredited dramaturgy qualification, presenting an innovative curriculum shaped by its location within the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and Melbourne's vibrant arts scene. The Master of Theatre (Dramaturgy) enables students to broaden their understanding of dramaturgy beyond traditional text-based approaches to include dance, experimental works, installations, community projects, and performance art. Participants will cultivate leadership skills while gaining comprehensive insights into dramaturgical concepts and methodologies from seasoned practitioners. Grounded in principles of artistic excellence, collaboration, and interdisciplinary practice, the program connects with both local and global dramaturgical traditions while maintaining strong ties to the Master of Theatre (Directing) and Master of Theatre (Writing) programs. Delivered through a three-semester structure blending theory and practice, the curriculum features laboratory workshops, seminars, lectures, independent study, tutorials, masterclasses, and hands-on performance projects. Emphasizing collaborative skills development, students will work alongside various VCA postgraduate disciplines and engage with diverse creative professionals in an immersive training setting, fostering potential long-term artistic partnerships.
