The Master of Theatre (Directing) program cultivates collaborative creative abilities, reflective practices, leadership qualities, and industry expertise for directors across various performance disciplines, encompassing traditional theater, experimental works, live art, and community engagement. This program maintains strong connections with both the Master of Theatre (Writing) and Master of Theatre (Dramaturgy) degrees. Grounded in foundational values of academic excellence, artistic dedication, ethical standards, cross-disciplinary exploration, and creative innovation, the curriculum features hands-on workshops, seminars, independent projects, expert-led masterclasses, and global internship opportunities guided by distinguished faculty. Participants will engage in diverse collaborative experiences with peers from VCA's acting, design, production, writing, dramaturgy, music composition, film, and dance programs, while also connecting with artists and organizations worldwide, fostering professional relationships that extend beyond graduation.
This program caters to creative arts graduates and industry professionals aspiring to careers as directors, artistic visionaries, performance creators, collaborative artists, or researchers.
Program Outcomes
Upon completing this course, graduates will have acquired:

In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed either: An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (such as the performing arts, music, visual arts, film, dance and digital arts), or equivalent; or An undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline (such as social sciences, architecture, landscape, computer science, cultural studies, applied sciences or international development fields), or equivalent; or an Honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, with a weighted average mark of at lease H2B (70%) across the Honours year; or At least six years of documented professional practice in the creative arts industry.

IELTS (academic English Only): 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 + ; Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13;
Pearson Test of English Academic: 58 + no communicative skill below 50
Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 + no skill below 169.
