The Melbourne Juris Doctor (JD) is a postgraduate law program that establishes the gold standard for legal training in Australia. Applicants are eligible if they hold a bachelor's degree in a non-law field, are completing such a degree in their application year, or possess an international law qualification.
Pursuing an undergraduate degree in another field followed by graduate legal studies provides superior qualifications compared to conventional double degrees.
The Melbourne JD prepares you with essential competencies to excel in diverse professional paths such as legal services, corporate sectors, public administration, and non-profit organizations.
Instruction comes from distinguished scholars renowned for their expertise, who integrate cutting-edge legal theory with practical applications to create a rigorous, career-oriented curriculum.
Your JD journey will be enriched by peer interactions as much as faculty guidance. Campus-based seminar discussions bring together students from varied academic and cultural backgrounds, fostering diverse viewpoints and innovative learning methods.
The program begins with an orientation and intensive summer course before first semester, facilitating early connections with peers and professional networking.
The Ian Malkin Centre for Legal Academic Skills provides comprehensive support through skill-building workshops, personalized tutoring sessions, and specialized study materials to enhance your independent learning.
