The Biomedicine program offers foundational core courses along with 15 specialized majors, equipping students for diverse healthcare careers. Exclusive to Biomedicine students, the second and third-year core subjects deepen your comprehension of biomedical sciences. Second-year integrated courses highlight interdisciplinary connections, fostering a holistic view of human biology. Third-year subjects shift toward clinical (Molecules to Malady) or population health (Frontiers in Biomedicine) perspectives, synthesizing your academic journey. This degree serves as excellent preparation for medical school and health professions. Approximately one-third of graduates enroll in our university's Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, comprising over half of domestic MD admissions, while others pursue various graduate studies at Melbourne.
The Bioengineering Systems major trains students to combine mathematical modeling with biological, chemical, and physical sciences to solve biomedical challenges. Key competencies developed include: scientific literacy for precise biological system modeling, analytical reasoning, problem-solving techniques, experimental validation skills, and professional communication abilities for conveying complex information effectively. This major creates opportunities in biomedical engineering (via Master's or PhD programs), applied mathematics, science education, administration, and financial sectors, while emphasizing communication skills development throughout the curriculum.
