Russian stands among the world's most important international languages, spoken by more than 140 million people and recognized as one of the six official United Nations languages. Proficiency in Russian can open doors to careers in international affairs, development studies, commerce, scientific fields, and creative industries. The Russian Studies curriculum aims to equip students with the ability to analyze diverse Russian-language materials—both written and spoken—and effectively communicate their findings through various formats. The language courses follow a structured progression from Russian 1 to Russian 6, with placement determined by the program based on students' language background, test results, or prerequisites. Students typically advance through the courses sequentially, though mid-year enrollment into even-numbered courses may be permitted with sufficient prior knowledge and program approval. The Russian Studies program may also authorize accelerated progression for qualified students.
