The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is an intensive year of advanced study designed for outstanding undergraduates. This program allows high-achieving students to deepen their expertise in a chosen field.
The BA (Honours) represents a more rigorous academic challenge than standard undergraduate degrees, featuring diverse programs across humanities, social sciences, and languages. It cultivates sophisticated research capabilities, analytical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills. Students can focus on a single discipline (pure honours) or combine two areas (combined honours).
This additional year following your three-year BA degree prepares you for research-focused graduate programs (PhD or Masters by Research). Many undergraduate degrees include an honours pathway. The program develops superior research methods, critical analysis, and communication abilities while offering substantial independent project experience. It may also shorten some Melbourne University Masters programs by up to one year.
