The minimum requirement for entry into Chinese Studies honours is the completion of all BA requirements and a major in Chinese Language with a minimum H2A (75%) average or its equivalent. The Chinese Studies honours program includes advanced coursework and an individual research project aimed at enhancing students' abilities to analyze issues related to China.Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: Communicate proficiently in various written and oral forms and social situations in Chinese languages; Use advanced knowledge of Chinese languages, culture, and society in relevant professional and academic settings; Employ rigorous inquiry methods and theories and methodologies suited to Chinese Studies; Develop and maintain a research-based argument.The Bachelor of Arts (Degree with Honours) is an advanced, specialized course that demands a higher level of performance than a pass degree. It provides a wide array of Arts programs in humanities, social sciences, and languages, improving students' capacity to gain advanced research and analytical skills and generate original ideas. It strengthens students' ability to apply innovative solutions to complex challenges. Students can focus on one area of study (pure honours) or two (combined honours), depending on their specialization.This additional year of study following a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree is intended to prepare students for graduate research degrees (Doctor of Philosophy – Arts or Masters by Research). Most undergraduate degrees provide an honours option. Honours equips students with advanced research, analytical, and communication skills, as well as more experience in independent projects. It can also shorten the duration of some Masters degrees at the University of Melbourne by up to one year.
