Technological advancements and enhanced environmental, social, and ethical standards are revolutionizing how clothing is produced, used, and perceived. To foster sustainable solutions in fashion, expertise in both technology and sustainability must be cultivated and integrated with conventional fashion and textile craftsmanship.
The Bachelor of Fashion and Textiles (Sustainable Innovation) equips students with the skills to pursue various roles in the fashion and textile industry while upholding these values. Through hands-on experience, theoretical learning, and technical training, students will create innovative solutions, products, and systems using human-centered methods that bridge design, technology, science, and art. This forward-thinking program explores sustainability as both a philosophy and objective in fashion and textiles. Students will engage with industry-aligned knowledge, ethical and eco-conscious practices, and advancements in both physical and digital materials. Additionally, they can choose to specialize in fashion design, textile design, or fashion enterprise through a minor.
Throughout the program, students will partner with industry and community organizations on various initiatives, including collaborative projects, internships, virtual studios, and case studies, ensuring exposure to contemporary professional methods and strategies. They will collaborate with industry leaders in material innovation, waste reduction, and digital design, building on existing partnerships with organizations like Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), Bruck Textiles, and Melbourne & Olympic Parks. Regular input from our Industry Advisory Groups, composed of prominent industry figures, helps maintain alignment with current standards and practices.
Graduates can pursue diverse career paths in this evolving industry, including roles in apparel manufacturing, athletic wear, safety gear, research and development, sustainability initiatives, and technical textiles, as well as related sectors like healthcare and automotive industries.
