This program covers essential music technologies, worldwide music traditions, contemporary music landscapes, industry operations, and stage performance techniques. The Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) stands out as a unique program celebrated for combining hands-on projects with scholarly learning. You can explore personal passions like music production using Ableton Live while honing analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. During your final year, you'll complete an internship at a music industry establishment aligned with your professional goals, gaining valuable experience before entering the workforce.
Our Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) faculty maintains strong connections with numerous prominent music industry entities, utilizing these partnerships for academic research, instruction, and evaluation purposes.
Collaborators include the Mushroom Group (a recording and publishing powerhouse), Music Victoria (Melbourne's premier industry advocacy group), the Australian Music Vault (preserving the nation's musical heritage), The Push (supporting young musicians), along with the Victorian Music Development Office, Australasian Performing Rights Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (APRA AMCOS), the Australian Music Centre, and numerous others.
During your third year, you'll gain practical industry exposure through a tailored internship placement. Previous students have worked with major labels like Universal Music Australia, Warner Music Australia, and Sony; independent imprints such as Chapter Music and Milk Records; event promoters including Frontier; broadcasters like PBS FM; and renowned venues including The Tote, the Corner Hotel, Laundry Bar, Opera Australia, and the Melbourne Theatre Company. Additional opportunities have included placements at recording facilities, music festivals, artist management firms, and various other organizations matching students' specialized interests. Numerous interns have successfully transitioned into permanent positions with these companies.
