Pursue an in-depth investigation of a subject you're deeply interested in, making a novel and meaningful addition to humanity's collective understanding. A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) allows you to thoroughly examine a research area of your choosing. With guidance from an academic supervisor, you'll conduct independent study on a focused subject, culminating in a thesis of up to 100,000 words. This work will constitute an important, innovative advancement in its field. Throughout your PhD journey, you'll cultivate autonomous research capabilities, including the ability to identify research questions, acquire specialized conceptual and methodological expertise to investigate them, and situate your work within the wider academic context of your discipline. Crafting your thesis presents exciting chances to collaborate with and receive feedback from leading scholars in your field, while also participating in conferences both nationally and internationally. Research degree opportunities are available across all Schools at Murdoch, which promotes both traditional disciplinary studies and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
