Monash University's Master of Counselling delivers a professional qualification that blends theoretical learning with hands-on experience, equipping you with the expertise needed to launch a fulfilling career in counselling. This program is ideal for professionals from diverse fields including human resources, healthcare, social services, and education, and is led by distinguished academics with substantial experience as practicing counsellors and psychologists. You'll gain specialized competencies in professional counselling that can be adapted to various environments and situations. Throughout the course, you'll learn from passionate educators who bring their real-world counselling and psychology experience to the classroom, helping you bridge theory with practical application across different counselling scenarios. The curriculum focuses on building advanced knowledge in counselling individuals, couples, families, and groups, while training you in modern, evidence-based techniques for assessment and intervention with diverse clients. A key component involves refining your professional abilities and developing a personal counselling approach through 200 hours of supervised practice - comprising 100 direct client hours (individual, couples, family, and group sessions) and 100 indirect hours (observation, documentation, meetings, and administrative tasks). While the Counselling Placement Team facilitates numerous placement opportunities, students typically need to complete application processes or interviews to secure positions. Those studying remotely or internationally will receive support from the team while arranging their own placements.
