The Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) stands at the forefront of global sustainability efforts, uniting specialists across diverse disciplines through its cutting-edge interdisciplinary initiatives and centers of excellence. MSDI's research prioritizes actionable solutions with real-world policy applications. At MSDI, you'll find an engaging, collaborative, and expert-driven setting to investigate contemporary challenges in climate action and sustainable development. The doctoral program at MSDI follows the innovative Monash Doctoral Program framework - designed to meet 21st-century needs. This initiative allows you to conduct in-depth, independent research on an approved subject with guidance from a team of at least two academic supervisors. Additionally, you'll participate in professional development modules or coursework designed to prepare you for influential roles across academia, industry, public sector, or civil society. Your research will culminate in a thesis or other approved scholarly output that meaningfully advances knowledge in your chosen field.

Qualification Requirements
The minimum qualifications for admission to PhD enrolment are:
a bachelor's degree requiring at least four years of full-time study in a relevant field, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field,
a course leading to a level rated by the relevant department, faculty and committee as equivalent to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field,
a master's degree that entails work, normally including a significant research component, including at least 25% of one full time equivalent year of work, including a thesis. It is normally expected that a grade of honours 2A has been obtained for the research thesis or project. Where ungraded, examiners' reports will be taken into account, or
have qualifications which in the opinion of GRC are deemed equivalent.
