The Radiography and Medical Imaging (Honours) program equips students with the expertise needed to qualify as professional radiographers. These healthcare specialists play a crucial role in patient care by employing various imaging technologies such as X-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, and MRI to produce diagnostic images for medical assessment. The curriculum emphasizes strong connections between academic learning and real-world clinical settings. Students gain hands-on experience through diverse placements across Victorian healthcare facilities, including regional hospitals, Melbourne metropolitan centers, and private radiology clinics. Throughout the program, participants master essential radiography techniques using multiple imaging modalities like general radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and ultrasound (note that ultrasound specialization typically requires further postgraduate study). The course features clinical rotations every semester and employs cutting-edge teaching methods, including case-based digital learning, electronic clinical portfolios, ethics-focused scenario training, and avatar-assisted simulation exercises. Upon graduation, students qualify to register with Australia's Medical Radiation Practice Board, with national recognition across all states and territories. Graduates may also apply for professional certification through the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT).
