The Political Philosophy major is exclusively available to students enrolled in either the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics program or the combined Law (Hons) and PPE dual degree. This major serves two primary purposes. Initially, alongside the core PPE curriculum, its required units guarantee students attain foundational knowledge across Economics, Politics, and Philosophy within their PPE studies. Subsequently, the major's elective options enable specialization in one of three philosophical approaches particularly suited for interdisciplinary analysis incorporating political and economic perspectives. Within this major, students may explore normative inquiries regarding individual and collective decision-making (examining ethical frameworks, human rights discourse, and justice theories). Alternatively, they can sharpen analytical reasoning abilities for application in social and behavioral sciences. Another pathway involves developing sophisticated perspectives on identity formation through examining societal influences on self-conception. By pursuing one of these specialized tracks, graduates will gain the capacity to evaluate institutional structures and their potential for advancing social goals, thereby fulfilling the overarching objectives of the PPE program.
