The French Studies program empowers you to engage with French-speaking communities worldwide by enhancing your language skills and understanding of France's history, society, and culture. This major opens doors to global communication networks and a wealth of literary, historical, and scientific knowledge, while also broadening your Latin language expertise. As a language used across continents and in organizations like the UN and Doctors Without Borders, French equips you for success in diverse fields such as education, translation, diplomacy, international business, law, and humanitarian efforts. We highly recommend considering an exchange program with one of La Trobe's partner institutions in France. (Note: International programs may be subject to travel limitations.) Choose your first-year stream based on proficiency: Beginners (minimal French background), Intermediate (Year 11 French level), Advanced (Year 12 French level), or Extended (native or near-native fluency).
