This doctoral program combines conventional PhD research training, involving thesis development, with coursework and clinical internships focused on psychological theories and methodologies. Graduates will acquire specialized skills for careers in clinical research environments such as academic institutions, healthcare facilities, research organizations, and government agencies. The curriculum fulfills the Psychology Board of Australia's criteria for full registration and qualifies graduates for the Registrar program's clinical psychology specialization. Additionally, it satisfies the Australian Psychological Society's College of Clinical Psychologists associate membership requirements. Students will develop advanced capabilities in evaluation, intervention, and investigation, applying these skills to assist individuals facing psychological challenges. As qualified psychologists, graduates will be equipped for roles in education, management, research centers, private practice, health services, child welfare organizations, and consulting firms.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have completed an Honours degree in Psychology (which involves an individual research project) at the level of First Class or Second Class (Division A) Honours and accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Candidates will also be considered if they have completed a Masters degree in Psychology if the Masters training program was APAC accredited and included a significant research component. Applicants who have completed comparable training and degrees outside Australia will be considered for admission but are advised to submit an academic transcript to the Australian Psychological Society (APS) which will assess whether their training is equivalent to an Honours degree from an Australian university. It is also highly recommended that students will have completed courses or units that are relevant to clinical psychology (for example, Abnormal Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Heath Psychology). The Grade Point Average in the undergraduate degree, fourth year and relevant courses will be taken into account.English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a country other than Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom, the United States of America or South Africa or undertaken in a language other than English.
