For those aspiring to teach in primary schools, the Master of Teaching (Primary) offers comprehensive preparation. Available as either a 1.5-year accelerated program or a standard 2-year option, this degree equips students with the qualifications needed for teacher registration. The curriculum combines in-depth educational theory with hands-on teaching practice. Graduates will develop multi-perspective understanding, interpersonal skills, and the adaptability to thrive in today's fast-changing world. This program ensures new teachers enter the workforce with both confidence and professional capability. While most graduates pursue teaching careers in public or private institutions, alternative career paths exist, such as becoming community education coordinators or learning engagement specialists.
Applicants must hold an approved undergraduate bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a pre-service teaching degree and admission normally will not be granted to applicants who already hold a teaching qualification in the same area.
Additional entry requirements
Applicants must complete a non-academic assessment task known as a Teaching Capabilities Statement as part of their application to demonstrate their motivation to teach, their strong interpersonal and communication skills, willingness to learn, resilience, self-efficacy, and strong organisational and planning skills. This involves a short statement in response to three set questions used to demonstrate suitability for study and work in the teaching profession.
Applicants who select this course as a preference during the application process will be directed to a page to meet this requirement.
