Women's studies examines the fundamental role of gender in shaping contemporary and historical experiences across Australian and global societies. By pursuing a Women's Studies major, you'll investigate how gender influences cultural systems, social structures, personal identities, and interpersonal dynamics through multidisciplinary perspectives. This field welcomes all genders and doesn't require feminist identification - only genuine curiosity about feminine experiences and gender identity. The curriculum engages with progressive concepts and pressing modern concerns such as intimate partner violence, sexual assault norms, wage disparities, discrimination, racial bias, LGBTQ+ prejudice, self-perception, and collective memory. You'll analyze gender through diverse lenses (including cross-cultural and international comparisons) and its interaction with other social factors like ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation.
