Graduates earning a Doctor of Engineering (DEng) will possess the ability to produce innovative and meaningful advancements in professional knowledge by addressing real-world challenges relevant to their field and the broader engineering community. Completing this program prepares graduates to spearhead research initiatives tackling pressing industrial and societal issues within their specialization. The curriculum provides the expertise needed to conduct independent research or lead teams in solving practical, profession-related challenges throughout their careers. This three-year doctoral program (comprising four 12-week terms annually) begins with four coursework units and a research proposal in the first year. Candidates showcase their research potential through an extensive literature review, building upon their undergraduate studies and foundational doctoral coursework. The second year involves completing four additional units (two coursework and two research-focused) that delve deeper into specialized discipline concepts. These units incorporate substantial research components meeting AQF Level 910 standards, applying advanced theory to contemporary industry challenges while examining the connection between theoretical frameworks and professional applications. This phase equips candidates with the necessary expertise to undertake rigorous doctoral dissertation work in their final year, including selecting a research topic and conducting preliminary literature reviews. The third year focuses entirely on the dissertation, where candidates expand their research project developed during previous years. Drawing upon their second-year training and investigations, candidates produce original, impactful work at AQF Level 10 that advances professional practice knowledge. This requires generating novel, industry-applicable insights under combined academic and industry mentorship.
