The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts conducts research across a broad spectrum of creative fields in the performing arts. Our areas of study encompass electronic music and sound design, historical performance techniques (with emphasis on early keyboard instruments), jazz and modern music, dance and choreographic arts, physical theater, theatrical production (including acting, directing, and playwriting), dance wellness, and motion capture technology applications. Our institution maintains a strong reputation for excellence in practice-based research, with numerous faculty members acclaimed both professionally and academically. The academy features top-tier performance venues, ample rehearsal and studio spaces, Australia's most comprehensive collection of historical pianos, and cutting-edge facilities for spatial audio and motion capture technology. Prospective postgraduate research projects are generally developed in collaboration with our postgraduate coordinator or potential advisors. We encourage applications from accomplished graduates and professional artists across all performing arts disciplines, especially those seeking to pioneer new approaches, achieve artistic mastery, and demonstrate leadership through both creative work and scholarly contributions.
