Concentrates on essential skills needed for modern careers in independent and commercial performance creation, as well as performance as a form of social engagement.
Participants will develop vocal and movement techniques while prioritizing wellbeing, gain expertise in stagecraft, design, and technical theater, and explore current performance theories. For their culminating project, students collaborate in small pre-professional groups to develop, research, rehearse, and present original performances. Historical studies provide context, helping students grasp the origins of modern performance traditions. Special emphasis is placed on 20th-century innovations in performance methods, philosophies, and theories, and their influence on today's experimental performance scene.
