Each Master of Science - Information Technology student will be assigned a primary supervisor from the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI)'s full-time academic staff, who are research-experienced. Additional associate supervisors, either from within or outside the institution, may be appointed to support the main supervisor. Candidates might need to fulfill specific attendance obligations and must submit a thesis presenting their research findings in their chosen field of study, as determined during enrollment. The program facilitates introductions between students and potential supervisors to explore possible research projects.
For Master by Research candidates to graduate, they must exhibit comprehensive mastery of complex subject matter in their chosen discipline(s) by producing significant original contributions to knowledge through proper research methodologies. This takes the form of a thesis not exceeding 50,000 words, evaluated through external assessment. While research forms the core of the degree, students must also complete at least one coursework unit as part of their requirements.
To be considered for selection into this degree you are required to have completed:
a research project including a thesis which is equivalent to at least 25% of a year’s full-time study at Level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework, with achievement of a grade for the project equivalent to a Deakin grade of 65% or equivalent
