The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a guided research initiative designed for creating meaningful, novel insights in your selected arts specialization.
Deakin presently supports approximately 1,600 postgraduate research scholars – bright minds utilizing our top-tier resources, collaborations, research hubs, and esteemed academic standing.
Your investigative work will be overseen by a supervisory team, led by a primary advisor – a seasoned full-time faculty member with research expertise.
You’ll produce an 80,000 to 100,000-word dissertation presenting your research findings. For creative arts PhD candidates, you may submit a combination of original artistic work and a 25,000 to 50,000-word explanatory analysis.
To be considered for selection into a Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) degree, you are required to have completed either:
a research project in a related area including a thesis which is equivalent to at least 25% of a year's full-time study at Level 8 or 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework with achievement of a grade for the project equivalent to a Deakin grade of 70% or equivalent
a masters degree (research) in a related area
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: Overall 7 No band less than 6.5
TOEFL IBT: 94 Writing 24
C1 ADVANCED and C2 PROFICIENCY: 185 No band less than 176
PTE: 65 No less than 58 in each skill
OET: Overall B (equivalent to a IELTS 7~7.5 range)
