This accelerated master's program provides a direct pathway to qualify as an occupational therapist. The Graduate Entry Master of Occupational Therapy (GEM) is designed for degree holders, ideally in health sciences or human services, seeking a quicker route into the profession. Occupational therapists focus on helping individuals engage in what they term 'occupation' - the wide range of daily activities people perform. These activities span from personal care like tattoo maintenance and hairstyling to social interactions, transportation, employment, sports, and assisted living. Various factors including health conditions, injuries, or disabilities at any life stage can hinder participation. Occupational therapists collaborate with individuals, groups, organizations, and communities to pinpoint obstacles preventing occupational engagement and develop appropriate interventions, approaches, and remedies. These barriers may be physical, societal, perceptual, or legal in nature, necessitating comprehensive training for practitioners.
