This course teaches both the scientific principles of nutrition and practical strategies for enhancing population health through better nutrition. You'll also refine essential communication and collaboration abilities.
The initial year follows an interprofessional approach, shared with students from various health science disciplines. During your second year, you'll select one of two specializations: Nutrition or Food Science.
Nutrition
This specialization deepens your knowledge about the connections between dietary patterns and health results.
You'll examine how social and cultural factors shape eating habits across different communities while completing a nutrition-focused research initiative.
Completion of the Nutrition specialization fulfills prerequisites for admission to Curtin's Master of Dietetics program.
Australia differentiates dietitians from other nutrition and food science professionals, requiring postgraduate education for dietitian certification.
Food Science
This concentration emphasizes food composition analysis, ingredient behavior during processing, and applying this understanding to enhance food safety and quality standards.
The program includes industry visits and culminates in a professional placement with an external food-related organization.
