Curtin's Bachelor of Laws delivers the foundational qualification required to practice law in Australia. Pairing this with a major in International Relations or Journalism can prepare you for careers in human rights, international law, media law, or as a journalist reporting on legal matters and processes.Our law program provides a comprehensive and professionally applicable grounding in legal principles. You'll develop essential skills for effective legal work and cultivate strong business acumen. Early in your studies, you'll begin appreciating the significance of upholding the rule of law and the ethical obligations of legal professionals.You'll also have the chance to choose elective courses in areas like forensic advocacy, family law, human rights law, native title law and policy, and technology law. These electives allow you to customize your Bachelor of Laws according to your interests.Combining your studies with a Bachelor of Arts will expand your knowledge and capabilities. An international relations major will deepen your understanding of global diplomacy, political systems, and international organizations. A journalism major will teach you reporting techniques across radio, video, and digital media platforms.The initial three years of this program are conducted in semesters at Curtin Perth, while the fourth year plus one trimester takes place at Curtin Law School's Perth City campus. Full-time students can complete both degrees in just 4.5 years.While studying at Curtin Perth City, you'll gain practical experience through simulated proceedings in our advanced moot court and by working on actual cases at the John Curtin Law Clinic. You'll benefit significantly from connections with academics, practicing solicitors, and barristers at Curtin Law School, as well as from the nearby Supreme Court, District Court, and Federal Court.International relations represents a dynamic, interdisciplinary field examining diplomatic, normative, and economic interactions among different political entities.In this major, you'll investigate current global challenges using various analytical approaches from political theory, international relations theory, foreign policy, strategic studies, and political history. You'll acquire thorough knowledge of the participants, institutions, and mechanisms of international politics and organizations. You'll study diplomacy and policy development, geopolitical transformations, and national and regional security across military, political, and economic dimensions.You'll examine crucial political and regional concerns affecting Australia – particularly focusing on the Indo-Pacific region – and analyze statecraft, international commerce, environmental changes, and emerging technologies.You'll additionally develop capabilities in critical analysis, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication – skills that support successful careers in international relations.
