Metallurgical engineers primarily focus on transforming raw metals and minerals into more practical forms, like producing steel from iron ore and coal. They specialize in extracting, purifying, and recycling metals and minerals that are essential for various aspects of daily life, such as power generation, agriculture, construction, and logistics.
This program teaches you to design, improve, and oversee metallurgical processing facilities that economically and sustainably convert low-value raw materials into high-quality mineral and metal products.
You'll develop expertise in chemical and physical engineering, along with principles of economics, environmental sustainability, and metal extraction. The curriculum also emphasizes management skills. You have the option to pursue a combined Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) and Bachelor of Commerce degree.
