Forensic Anthropology is gaining significant prominence both globally and locally. This growing attention stems largely from media reports on human rights violation cases and cold murder investigations. Australian professionals have recently participated in such work in locations like East Timor and the Solomon Islands.

As a field, Forensic Anthropology focuses on utilizing anthropological and archaeological expertise to address legal-medical inquiries. The discipline is typically divided into three key areas:

forensic osteology
forensic archaeology
forensic taphonomy
Forensic osteology applies techniques from physical anthropology, concentrating on identifying individuals through examination of bodily remains (primarily bones and teeth).
