The Master of Applied Criminology provides advanced training for professionals currently in or aspiring to join criminal justice fields focused on reducing and preventing crime across Australia, New Zealand, the Asia-Pacific, and globally. Our faculty consists of leading researchers who bring extensive local and international expertise, along with strong government and industry networks. ANU graduates are recognized as Australia's most employable and among the world's most desirable to employers (Times Higher Education 2024). Students will develop skills to apply both traditional and innovative theoretical frameworks, research findings, and practical competencies for comprehensive analysis. This degree opens career opportunities in various criminal justice sectors such as law enforcement, corrections, legal practice, policy development, and academic research. While admissions are accepted for both first and second semesters, starting in semester 1 is advised to establish a solid grounding in criminological principles. Prospective semester 2 entrants should consult the program coordinator to plan their academic journey.
At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry.
Applicants must present one of the following:
a cognate Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5/7; or
a cognate Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 4/7 and a Graduate Certificate or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 4/7; or
